Weapon mastery

Weapon mastery has three kinds: melee, cast, and summon. Only one can be held at a time. It persists until relinquished and enables the use of Legendary and higher weapons of its kind. [1]

Requirements

Equipping a legendary melee, casting, or summoning weapon requires completing its respective weapon mastery. [4]

Starting mastery requires a legendary weapon of the matching type. [5]

Summoning mastery

Talking to the summoning master with a legendary summoning weapon starts the quest. [3]

Effects

Changing weapon mastery has a cost. [6]

Behavior

Without the corresponding mastery, Legendary and higher weapons can be found, carried, and equipped, but cannot attack or activate abilities. Weapons below Legendary are unaffected. [7]

Paying Ichor relinquishes the learned mastery and reopens all three trials. Any of the three can then be taken again. [8]

Access

The summoning master can be accessed early in the game. [2]

Melee mastery

Talking to the melee mastery NPC at the Coliseum with a legendary melee weapon starts the quest. [9]

Obtainment

A trainer assigns a mastery trial tracked in the Quest tab. Only one trial can be active; accepting it closes the other two. After completing the trial, mastery also requires showing the trainer a Legendary or better weapon of that kind and paying Ichor. [10]
